October 28, 1950 – August 22, 2014
If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.
So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
– Romans 14:8
With sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Marlene Goritz at Health Sciences Centre, on August 22, 2014, at 63 years of age. She will be deeply missed by her mother Clara (nee Hoppe), her brothers Leonard (Betty), Larry (Sharon), and Gordon (Marie), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her father Ewald Goritz. Marlene was born on October 28, 1950 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was raised on the family farm in Greenwald, MB, north of Beausejour. Upon completing school, she pursued an education in Nursing. A caregiver at heart, Marlene worked at the Beausejour Hospital as a Registered Nurse for most of her career. She was the coordinator of the Meals-On-Wheels program in Beausejour for many years. When visiting Marlene, you’d find that she was always armed with hugs, and a camera. A collector of dolls, many rooms of her home were adorned with them. She gravitated to babies and pets, often rocking them in her arms and coaxing them to sleep. Her soft touch led her to become the family’s private masseuse. She became her mother’s caregiver in recent years, showing her much patience and care. She was noted for always being “on the go”, with her mom in tow, whether it be to play cards, attend Wednesday Bible Study meetings, gather with the Red Hats, or visit family and friends near and dear to her. Marlene was strongly dedicated to her faith, making it central to her life. Her quiet nature will be missed by all who knew her.
Thank you to those who supported Marlene by offering meals, driving her to appointments, mowing her lawn, and by being there for her when she requested a hand. She truly appreciated the care shown to her. Sincere thanks to the staff at HSC, and to her friend Marilyn, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beausejour District Health Centre.
A celebration of Marlene’s life will take place Monday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Beausejour Community Church.
