Mary Laurent

September 11, 1930 ~ August 11, 2021

Mary passed away peacefully at Blenheim Lodge in Vancouver, B.C.

She will be deeply missed by her sons, Dale and his wife Trish, Kurt and her grandchildren Isaac, Sierra and Mason, along with her surviving siblings, older brother Paul and younger sisters Elaine and Edna.  She also left behind many cherished relatives and friends.

Mary was born and raised on the family farm in Greenwald, Manitoba.  After completing high school she moved to Winnipeg where she attended Success College before meeting her loving husband Harold.  Their life journey took them to Red Lake, Ontario where Dale was born.  Shortly after his birth they went back to Winnipeg for a short time before heading off to Los Angeles, California where Kurt was born.  Then it was on to Pontiac, Michigan before finally returning to Mary’s roots in Beausejour in 1975.

Mary’s great sense of humor and fun loving attitude brought her many friends and admirers.  While always being a devoted mother and wife she also found time to help out with Church activities and the Beausejour Hospital Auxiliary.

One of Mary’s most enjoyable experiences was when Mary and her dear friend Barb Kozyra opened a small restaurant in town called “The Purple Onion”.  You could always be assured of a few laughs along with the best Perogies in town while Elvis was playing in the background.

When Harold suffered a devastating stroke, Mary worked tirelessly caring for him along with her own mother at the same time.  Trudging through the cold and snow in the middle of the night between their houses to make sure they were safe and comfortable.  Her nurturing side was unsurpassed.

Mary will always be remembered for her joking side, fun loving attitude, and loving devotion to her family and friends.

A service will be held on August 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, Manitoba.
