Maureen Elizabeth Jackson

October 8, 1945 — February 28, 2019

October 8, 1945 ~ February 28, 2019

It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Maureen Elizabeth Jackson, on Thursday, February 28th, 2019, at the age of 73.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her beloved husband, Neil Jackson of 28 years; and children from her first marriage: Keilani (Jeff) Bell and granddaughter Chloe; and son Dallas (Shirley) Thomas and grandchildren, Faith and Christian.  She also leaves to mourn her brother Ross (Glenda) Hall; sister Linda deWaal; brother Brian (Carol) Hall; brother Darrell (Faye) Hall and sister Darlene (Albert) Marion; as well as several nephews and nieces, and greats. She was predeceased by her parents, Alvin and Edna Hall.

Maureen was born in Carman, MB on October 8, 1945. The second eldest in her family of 6 children, Maureen started school in Napinka, MB.  She gave her heart to the Lord when she was a young girl, and continued to serve Him all her days!  She truly loved the Lord!  Maureen took piano lessons and completed her grade 7.  She always loved music and had a beautiful singing voice.  In her latter years she would often hum an old hymn and shed a tear, as the music and her love for Jesus stirred her. Maureen graduated from high school in Portage La Prairie, MB.  Then went on to attend Normal School in Brandon to get her teacher’s training.  Her first teaching position was in Elm Creek, MB. Later, after her children were raised, she became a teacher’s assistant for the Norwood, St. Boniface School Divisions in Winnipeg.  It was there she met Neil Jackson, a teacher in one of the schools. They were married on July 7, 1990. After they retired, they moved to Grand Beach. She loved living there in the quiet solitude and enjoyed her walks on the beach.  She also enjoyed curling and skidooing in the winter months. Maureen played the electric keyboard at the little church in Grand Marais for a couple of years. Her family remembers her love of wearing high heel shoes, makeup and dressing up!  She was one classy lady!  Maureen loved going to visit her children and grandchildren up until she was no longer able to.

Maureen developed Parkinson’s disease about 18 years ago.  In spite of this debilitating disease she never was one to complain, and relied on the Lord to give her strength for each new day she was given. The last couple of years she resided in the Kildonan Personal Care Centre up until her passing.  She was lovingly cared for there and we wish to thank her care givers.  Maureen was one special lady, and will certainly be missed by all!

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thalberg, MB.  Directions: North Up Highway 59, then turn right at Stead Road. When you reach Highway 12, turn RIGHT (there is the Sherwood Forest Grocery on that corner). After 1 mile, turn LEFT onto 94 N (there is a tiny sign with an arrow indicating the church name). The Trinity Lutheran Church will be one mile down that road on the left side, with lots of parking.  Fellowship luncheon to follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Research Foundation (https://parkinsonhope.org/ways-donate/) if you so desire.
