1932 ~ 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and omi, Melitta Kunzmann, who passed away at Sunnywood Manor on July 31, 2021 at the age of 88.
She is predeceased by her parents August and Elizabeth Schwenk, her first husband Erwin Kunzmann, her second husband Karl-Heinz Myrrhe and her brother Otmar.
Melitta Schwenk was born on September 29, 1932 in Worms Kreis, Odessa, Rubland.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Rose Stevens (Gerry), Brigitte Durocher (Robert) and Caroline Bliss.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michel Durocher (Lauren), Melissa Grenier (Remy), Kristin Durocher (Jay), Matthew Stevens (Anniebelle), Jason Stevens (Rachelle), Kristina Stevens, Kaitlyn Stephenson and Jayden Stephenson; her eight great grandchildren, James, Jackson, Alex, Mya, Payton, Taylor, Nikoleta and Camryn. As well she will be remembered by her husband Karl-Heinz’s daughter, Iris (Bill) and their family.
Family, grandchildren and great grandchildren was a big part of her life. She was caring and compassionate and would go out of her way to help anyone. She was a hard worker who enjoyed gardening and baking. Her family will always remember the delicious German Christmas cookies she made called “Hoernchen”. No one could perfect the cookies as well as her.
She graduated as a Health Care Aide in 1985, worked as a dental assistant in Lac du Bonnet for many years. She also worked as an Ambulance Attendant in Lac du Bonnet with the volunteer ambulance. This was a proud accomplishment to be one of the first women to drive the ambulance in the area.
She lived in Lac du Bonnet for most of her life. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Iron Wood in Pinawa and Sunnywood Manor in Pine Falls for all the care and compassion that was shown to our Omi.
We are so incredibly proud to have called this woman our Mom and our “Omi”. She was kind, nurturing, strong, resilient, brave, energetic and most importantly a woman of God. She was the matriarch of our family and kept us all close. She loved serving others and taught us the true meaning of “unconditional love”. We are so incredibly blessed to have had a role model like her.
Rest in peace Mom – We know you are dancing with the angels. We all miss you.
As per Melitta’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Association.
