Melody Ann Gudgeon

October 29, 1947 — January 20, 2018

October 29, 1947 ~ January 20, 2018

After a courageous battle with cancer, Melody passed away peacefully with family at her side in Beausejour, MB.

Melody was predeceased by her father Horace (Scotty) Alwin Gudgeon in November’63, and her mother Anne Marie Gudgeon (Schmidt) in May’98.  Melody is survived by her two sisters Carmen Trakeys and Nan Morowski, six nieces and two nephews Carol (John) Payne, Diane (Trakeys) Schmidt, Donna (John) Solleveld, Debbie (Murray) Johnson, Cindy (Paul) Flynn, Victor Trakeys, Rosanne (Jarrod) Plett, Steven Morowski plus 17 great nieces and nephews, and 11 great great nieces and nephews.  Melody will be sadly missed by all who knew her.  Melody was a cheerful person, she had a contagious smile and loved to laugh; Melody had a happy outlook on life.  She welcomed everyone with a big smile and a happy “hello, how are you?”.  Life was always good when you asked her, even if there was a storm, she rarely complained.

Melody was born in Winnipeg where she lived with her mother until her mom’s passing.  Melody worked for Paulin Chamber for 25 years until they closed their doors.  After retirement, Melody moved to Seddons Corner where she lived with her niece Rosanne and her family.  Melody enjoyed the simple things in life from family vacations with her sister Nan, listening to music, especially Elvis, Alan Jackson, and gospel.  She loved attending church and loved to go swimming and whenever she had the chance, her bags would be packed and she’d be at the car before I’d say let’s go.  Melody loved little babies and when she hugged them, she had a vice grip on them and they would fall asleep.  We called her Aunty Anaconda.  Melody loved her pets and would pat them for hours including her dog Dolly.

Everyone who met Melody loved her and she had a big extended family.  We want to thank you all for your heartfelt prayers and those who took the time to visit Melody in the hospital.  It meant the world to her.  Thank you to Beausejour Hospital staff for the excellent care and compassion they showed Melody.  Special hugs go out to Scotty and the nurse who sang and prayed for Melody.  Thank you Pastor Ben for your prayers.  Thank you to Sobering Funeral Chapel as well.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Melody’s life for close friends and family will be held on Friday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beausejour Community Church.
