Stewart Michael Marowitch

March 28, 1939 — March 28, 2018

1939 ~ 2018

Michael (Mike) Marowitch, aged 78, of Beausejour, left us on June 18, 2018 following a courageous 3 ½ yr. battle with Mesothelioma which he fought with the courage and strength of an eagle. He was the loving father of his sons Dean (Krista) and Kirk (Kirsty) and proud Papa Mike to his adored grandson, Ryan (11).  Also surviving is his sister Janet of Winnipeg plus numerous cousins, a few aunts and several friends. He was predeceased by his father Michael (78) in 1995 and his beloved mother Jean (102) in 2017. As well, his brother David (71) died in 2015 and several relatives and friends departed.

Mike loved living in Beausejour on the bank of the Brokenhead River for the past 46 years where he kayaked in summer and snowmobiled in winter

He began his working career at an early age at McLeod’s store on Higgins. His keen interest in cars sparked him to start Superior Towing for a few years. At the CPR Weston Shops, he became a machinist for over 20 years, retiring early…

Cars played an integral role in his life. He spent years restoring a series of classic cars, from his Pontiac Trans Am to his favourite 442 Oldsmobile amongst others. Mike made many friends at two car clubs, The Gear Grinders & The Clutchers. He was very proud of his current sapphire blue Liberty Jeep. Many Nascar races were watched in his meticulous man-cave garage.

Being an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 132, Mike enjoyed the activities and was instrumental in preparing & driving their float for local parades. He rose to be Vice President of the Beausejour Legion when Bud Magnusson was President.

As a youngster in pee wee hockey, he was a forward for the Sutherland Pirates. This fostered his love of The Jets. He was a loyal fan to his Winnipeg Blue Bombers, wearing his Bomber gear and blowing the blue horn on game days.

Mike loved to laugh and was a master at telling tall tales with such conviction, he had us hooked until the finale, “I was just kidding you”. He was a good man.

The family thanks the amazing staff at Beausejour Hospital for their exemplary service and compassion.  Kudos to Dr. Tanner and her team, in particular Diane, AJ, Scotty and Tori, as well as the CancerCare doctors. Sincere thanks to Dean Zielke for his dedicated support.

A celebration of Mike’s life takes place Friday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with viewing held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held in the Beausejour Town Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Br #132, Beausejour.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB  R3E 0V9, or to a charity of your choice.
