Myrtle Banash (nee Ruchkall)

December 26, 1933 — January 28, 2025

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother, Myrtle Banash (nee Ruchkall) on January 28, 2025 at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, Manitoba

Myrtle was born December 26, 1933 and had just celebrated her 91st birthday. She was raised in the Hazelridge area and lived her married life on the farm in the Garson area.

This strong, witty and loving woman will be deeply missed by her family - daughter Brenda (Clint Flood), daughter Sandra (Mitch Stubbs) grandsons Zane (Michelle) and Troy, and son Doug (Veronica Black).

She was predeceased by her husband Walter, parents Joe and Nellie Ruchkall and her brother Gordon. She is survived by her brother Russell.

Myrtle began her working life as a school teacher in Komarno. Her next adventure was a job at the Manitoba Pool Elevator where she enjoyed the Winnipeg city life. Myrtle married Walter in 1955 and had 64 years together before Walter passed away in 2019.

Together they worked hard on the farm. Myrtle could be found on a tractor, grain truck or tending to the many livestock and pets.

When not doing farmwork and chores, Myrtle was busy cooking, canning, baking, gardening, sewing or knitting. They built a home where friends and family were always welcomed with a cup of instant coffee or a drink and of course a plate of food.

Myrtle enjoyed casino trips, playing cards and bingo and listening to her favorite country and western music.

You would think 43 years of farming would have kept mom busy enough, but no - when she turned 65, she worked part-time at Elmhurst Golf & Country Club and loved it. She enjoyed catering and serving guests in the dining room.

In 2023 Myrtle moved to East Gate Lodge where she kept the staff entertained with her sense of humor and stories.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Rose Unit for their care, comfort and love of Myrtle.

Myrtle’s infectious smile brought a ray of sunshine to those around her and left a lasting impression on all.

We will miss her every single day. Her strength and generous caring self is instilled in all of her family.

As per Myrtle’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Garson, MB. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined; if desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Eastgate Lodge Recreation Program in Beausejour.

Mom will be missed by all who knew her

But she will never be forgotten

We have found peace in knowing she is reunited

With so many loved ones up in heaven.

May you rest easy Mom, until we meet again
