1914 ~ 2014
Peacefully, on January 6, 2014, Nora Malyk passed away at the age of 99. She was predeceased by her first husband, Nick, her second husband, Edward, her parents, a sister and a brother and her son-in-law, Glen Hirst. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Blythe Hirst, son Bruce (Debbie) Malyk, grandchildren Calvin (Yvonne) Hirst, Grant (Kathy) Hirst, Shannon (Randy) Worona and Matthew Malyk and great-grandchildren Anthony and Alia Worona, Austin and Nicholas Hirst and Dane Hirst.
Mom was born in Lettonia, MB, to Charles and Kristina Karklin on August 1, 1914. She grew up on the farm there and went to Newcombe School until Grade 8. She worked for a short time in Winnipeg and returned to Lac du Bonnet where she met Nick Rudy. They were married, but unfortunately a few years later he was diagnosed with M.S. and went to live in a nursing home in Winnipeg. She was then responsible for providing for herself and Blythe, so took in washing and dry cleaning for Perth’s in Lac du Bonnet. She later met Edward Malyk and they were married on December 24, 1954. They loved to travel and, once retired, enjoyed 15 winters in Texas. They also travelled with their son and grandchildren on many trips across Canada which they all looked forward to and have many great memories they will cherish. Throughout the years, Mom was also an active member of various local organizations in Lac du Bonnet. She held all positions in the Rebekah Lodge up to Noble Grand, was Past President of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Anglican Church Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered countless hours with these groups. Since January 2011, she had resided in the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home. Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff for their exceptional care of Mom during this time.
Funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at St. John’s Anglican Church in Lac du Bonnet, MB. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Nora’s memory to the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home.
