It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Olga Litke on April 9, 2011 with family at her side. Mom is now with Jesus her Lord and Saviour.

Olga will be lovingly remembered by her 11 children, Adella (Joe) Novak, Dianna (Serge) Gauthier, Margaret (Neil) Johnson, Carol (Herb) Sulkers, Doreen (Rick) Oberick, Jeanne (Dave) Wowchuk, Elaine Jasson (Rick Korstrom), Lloyd (Georgette) Litke, Alan (Daryl) Litke, Glen (Cathy) Litke and David Litke. She will also be sadly missed by her 29 grandchildren: Dwane, Sheldon, Marissa, Janna, René, Daniel, Derek, Darcy, Christopher, Joshua, Jacob, Rebecca, Shawn, Cory, Kyle, Garret, Dylan, Chelsey, Ashley, Justin, Christine, Chantal, Charissa, Chad, Chancellor, Quintin, Brooklynne, Keanna and Ryan; and 18 great grandchildren: Analeigh, Connor, Brody, Colby, Kiera, Keely, Emma, Samantha, Malory, Mason, Jaiden, Nyla, Kai, Haydn, Nash, Trent, Aria and Ryker.

Olga is survived by two sisters Emma (Bob) Loader and Elaine Ley, three brothers, Gordon (Beverley), Fred (Lynn) and Ray (Connie) Muth, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Olga was predeceased by her husband Albert Litke (1981), great grandchild Dylan Szatkowski-Oberick (in infancy, 2002), her parents Edward (1988) and Theophile (1997) Muth, and two brothers Johnny (in infancy, 1935) and Eric (1984) Muth.

Olga was born June 14, 1925 in Kamionka, Kostopal, Poland. In 1927 Olga immigrated to Canada with her parents who farmed in Beausejour, MB. Olga worked as a nanny for a local doctor until she married Albert on June 27, 1942. At the time of their marriage Albert was in the army stationed in Nanaimo, BC, and Olga joined him six months later. When Albert left the army, they returned to the Litke homestead in Green Bay, MB to live with Albert’s Mother. Together they built up their livestock and purchased the farm from Albert’s Mother in the late 40’s. Olga was always beside her husband and worked very hard on the farm. She helped in the fields, did farm chores like milking the cows and tending to the chickens and pigs, maintained a large garden and did lots of canning. In addition to this, she was able to keep a very clean and tidy home together with all the demands of an ever-growing family.

After the passing of her husband, Olga continued to maintain the immaculate farmyard and home. With the livestock sold and a much smaller garden to tend, she eventually had more time to travel and visit her children, relatives and good friends. She loved to spend time with all her children making perogies, cinnamon buns and baking, and was always willing to help her children when they needed her. Olga enjoyed sewing quilts, cross-stitching pictures, knitting, crocheting afghans and reading. She was full of love, and gave her entire heart, soul and life to her family. Olga had a strong faith in God and regularly attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Bay.

The Litke homestead was very dear to her; it was a very busy place where family and friends always enjoyed visiting. Olga loved to cook and no one ever left the farm hungry. With the help of her family, very dear friends and neighbours, Olga was able to stay on the farm until early 2007 when she moved to Beausejour and eventually into East Gate Lodge. Olga always loved to give and receive lots of hugs, friendly smiles and good-natured teasing which made her life there enjoyable.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Van Rensburg and the excellent staff at East Gate Lodge for their compassionate care.

A celebration of Olga’s life will be held on Friday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E ., Beausejour with viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Beausejour Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the Beausejour Room at the Brokenhead River Community Hall, 320 Veterans Lane. Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 14 from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. also at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olga’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, or East Gate Lodge Recreation Department.
