1930 ~ 2012
On the morning of Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 Mom peacefully left us at age 82 with her loved ones by her side.
Mom’s love will be forever cherished by her children: Allen (Nona) Lashek, Wayne (Norma) Lashek, Carolyn (Larry) Bohdanovich, her sister Doris Skalicky and her grandchildren: Amy, Lisa, Adam, Nicole, Stephanie, Murray, Aaron, Nicholas and Ashley and Emil’s children, Richard (Crystal), Lorraine (Tony), Donny and Rick.
Mom was predeceased by her mother Lillian, father Paul, her husband of 20 years, Dan in 1970, her sons Dennis (1985) and Ron (1994); her companion Emil, of 26 years, and her brothers and sisters: Steve and Mike Harasym, Pearl Harasym, daughter-in-law, Iris Crocker, John and Nick Harasym, Anne Novalkowski, Kay Nejedly, Teannie Nesplic, Peter and Andrew Homeniuk, Mary Struss, Anne Homeniuk, and Anne Nejedly.
Mom was born in Green Oak, Manitoba on March 12th, 1930. She grew up on the farm and when she was older she went to Winnipeg to work at Weston’s Bakery and Canada Packers. She married Dan Lashek on October 10th, 1950 and they had five children. Together they farmed until Dan’s untimely passing and Mom worked hard to raise her kids. She had many jobs and at times worked more than one job. She worked at the sewing factory in Beausejour, on the assembly line at the Polaris snowmobile factory, she pumped gas at gas stations, and worked at restaurants (Vicki’s and Depot Lunch) along with catering on weekends. She also worked as a housekeeper at East Gate Lodge. She grew a big garden and raised chickens. In the late 70’s she moved to Winnipeg and worked at Concordia Hospital as a housekeeper for 8 yrs before retiring at age 55 and she moved back to the farm.
She met Emil Reske in 1986 and they moved into Beausejour in 1988 where they shared and enjoyed many years of family gatherings together. We will miss Mom’s great cooking – she always had a meal waiting for us.
Mom loved children and was always happy to babysit for anyone. She was a strong person, had a great spirit and always had a big smile for everyone. All her children and grandchildren have many happy memories of time spent with her. Mom always let us know that she loved us and that family was the most important thing in life.
A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour, MB.
Sincere thanks to doctors and the Beausejour hospital staff for all their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mom, may be made to the Beausejour Hospital , Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
Mom always gave Love and never asked for anything in return. She loved children so we leave you with this poem:
When I die, give what is left of me to children.
If you need to cry, cry for your brothers and sisters walking beside you.
Put your arms around anyone and give them what you need to give to me.
I want to leave you with something better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I have known and loved.
And if you cannot live without me then let me live in your eyes,
your mind, and your acts of kindness.
You can love me most by letting hands touch hands.
Love does not die. People do.
So when all that is left of me is LOVE….
Give me away.
Offer Condolence for the family of Pauline Lashek (nee Harasym)
