Pearl passed away peacefully at Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home at 2:25 am, May 30, 2015 after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (P.S.P). Pearl was born at home in Lac du Bonnet 93 years ago.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother Fred and his family, her daughters and their families: Dorothy Flanagan (Gary), Carol Rosentreter (Richard), Wilma Chevrefils (Sylva, deceased); her grandchildren, Ken, Linda (Randy Bryksa) & Cindy (Cam Randall) Flanagan; Lisa (Mark Gretsinger), Darcy (Nawawan) & Bruce (Michelle) Rosentreter; Rick (Cheryl) & Scott (Cindy) Chevrefils and her great grandchildren Cassandra, Garrett, Calen, Carley, Zach, Jessica, Bailey, Vanessa, Anika, Rayce, Hillary, Chloe, Darian, Brett, Matthew, Celine, Emily and Nick. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lorraine Carlson and half-brother Bud Mager as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She took pride in being the head of a huge extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill, special son Danny, grandchildren Danny and Donna Chevrefils, her parents Eric Carlson and Margit (nee Thornquist), her siblings Chester, Eddie, Doris and June. She also lost her in-laws Marie, Johnny, Loreen, Frank, Helen and Jim.

Pearl dedicated her entire life to improving the life of her family, home, community and country. She was the perennial volunteer and she mothered and housed everyone who needed it.

Pearl was a 4-H leader for over 40 years. She specialized in teaching public speaking, meeting management and in arranging trips all over Canada and the US for deserving 4-H members. She was the Sunday School head in Great Falls for over 20 years.

Looking to improve the role of women, she established the Great Falls Women’s Institute in 1958. She became President of the Manitoba WI from 1974-76 and was the FWIC rep from 1977-83. She was the Northern Canada FWIC Chairman and taught and visited Eskimo women as far north as Tuktoyuktuk. While President, she attended the ACWW triennium in Australia. Some awards Pearl received were 4-H Leader of the Year, Manitoba Citizen of the Year, Queen’s Jubilee Medal, and Life Memberships in Manitoba WI, ACWW, LdB Pioneer Club and LdB Health Auxiliary.

Pearl worked for the Dept of Agriculture as 4-H Program Assistant for Eastern Manitoba from 1969-80. From 1979-87 Pearl worked as Program Coordinator of the Adult Day Care Program in LdB.

Pearl loved people, arts & crafts, music, antiques, gardening, feeding the birds, berry picking, swimming, cooking & baking for a bunch, sewing and Rainbow Stage. She excelled in organizing floats for July 1st parades and in masterminding Christmas concerts and ice carnivals. The Lac du Bonnet Kitchen Band was special to her. In 2005 Pearl compiled a book of pictures and memories of local veterans celebrating the “Year of the Veterans”. She will be missed.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour with the Reverend Sandra Tankard officiating. Viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Lac du Bonnet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Pearl’s memory to Lac du Bonnet PCH or a charity of your choice.
