1955 ~ 2012
With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Rondeau after a hard, but short battle with cancer. He left us the evening of Friday, July 27 with his wife, Leone, by his side.
Bob was loved by many people who will miss him terribly. He leaves with broken hearts, his wife of 26 years, Leone, and his pride and joy, his son, Kieran. Also left to mourn are his mother, Alma, his brother, Gerry (Cheryl), his sisters, Denise (Greg) Strecker and Monique (Jeff) Burden, his nephews, Craig Strecker (Christine and Gavin), Bryce Strecker (Erin and Jade) and Stephen Strecker, his mother and father-in-law, Gwen and Peter Lister, his sister-in-law, Linda Plexman (Carrie-Lynn, Whitney and Sophia-Lynn) and brother-in-law Jeff Lister (Glory, Janelle and Jonathon). Also feeling this loss are many dear friends, colleagues and extended family.
Bob is reunited in heaven with his first son, Braden, his father, Richard and his nephew, Jamison Lister, as well as other relatives who’ve gone before.
Bob was born on September 6, 1955 and spent most of his life in Beausejour. His early years were filled with fun times with friends and family. During this time, Bob became involved with curling which became a lifelong passion. After high school, Bob attended the University of Manitoba where he received his Bachelor of Education degree in 1977. He began his teaching career at Whitemouth School. After two years, he transferred to Beausejour Elementary School where he taught and became assistant principal. Bob was proud to be a part of the opening of the new Beausejour Early Years School. In 2004, Bob became the assistant principal of Anola School. The following year, Bob became the principal; a position he held for the next seven years. Bob was a much-loved teacher and administrator during his 35-year career with Agassiz/Sunrise School Division. He will be remembered for his kind, caring and calm manner. He was always willing to listen to and support students and colleagues. Bob was a lifelong learner, always reading the latest research and keeping up with current best practice in education. He willingly shared this information with colleagues throughout the school division, especially in the area of Math, which was of particular importance to him.
Bob’s giving spirit led him to become involved in many community and professional organizations and events. He loved the sport of curling and besides playing the game he shared his enthusiasm by coaching young curlers and instructing both beginners and other instructors. Two highlights of his curling career were playing in the Manitoba Tankard and coaching the Manitoba girls’ team at the 1995 Canada Games. Bob served on many volunteer boards and supported amateur sport in numerous ways. He was very proud to be co-chair of the successful 2006 Manitoba Winter Games that were held in Beausejour.
Above all, Bob was a family man. His wife and son were everything to him. He would do anything for them and supported and trusted them in whatever they chose to do. He was a good man whose memory will be cherished forever.
Our deepest thanks go out to our family and friends for their kindness over the last weeks. Your visits to Bob and your care for us move us beyond words. Our thanks to Dr. Askarifar, Dr. Lipschitz, Dr. Schmidt, Dr. Gordon and the amazing teams at Health Sciences Centre (H3 and A3 Step Down) and Beausejour Hospital for their care and compassion.
A service to remember and honor Bob was held on Thursday, August 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel. 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Brokenhead River Community Foundation, Box 2225, Beausejour, MB, R0E 0C0, for the establishment of the Bob Rondeau Curling Scholarship (please include in memo line) or the Canadian Cancer Society.
