Robert (Bob/Sam) Seguin

September 9, 1932 — December 15, 2024

Peacefully on the morning of December 15, 2024, at his home in Sunnywood Manor, Pine Falls, Bob passed away at the age of 92 with his son Tim by his side.

Like many Canadian kids he developed a passion for hockey early. He went on to play his Junior years for the Flin Flon Bombers, from where he was scouted by the Detroit Red Wings and attended their training camp, being wined and dined by Gordie Howe himself. Unfortunately, while a very fast skater, he was a little guy and didn’t make the team. However, he remained loyal to his beloved Red Wings his whole life. Bob, along with his best friend Huey McCay, did play professionally for a year in the English league with the Harringay Racers. He travelled with them throughout Europe and the Soviet Union, bringing back many good stories and memories.

In 1958 Bob married the love of his life Lynda, and the two settled down in their hometown of Pine Falls to raise a family. Bob went to work at the paper mill as a machinist and worked there until his retirement. He remained a competitive athlete throughout, playing for the Pine Falls Paper Kings (and eventually the Oldtimers), and adding golf, curling, baseball, and fastball to his list of activities. He was proudly inducted into two Halls of Fame with teams in hockey and fast ball.

Bob and Lynda raised their two children, Tim and Stacy, in Pine Falls with many glorious summers spent at the family cabin at Betula Lake. Retirement brought them new adventures in Texas and later Osoyoos, B.C., golfing, playing shuffle board and socializing. They travelled together in the US, England and Ireland, and took a bus tour through Europe. Bob was always a people person and made friends wherever he went.

In April of 2022, worsening dementia resulted in Bob being admitted to hospital in Pine Falls where he spent 5 months followed by his admittance to Sunnywood Manor personal care home. He lived his remaining years there, surrounded by friends and family. The dementia robbed him of many memories, but never of his smile and good humor, or his love for his family and friends.

Bob is survived by Lynda, his beloved wife of 66 years, their children Tim (Paula) and Stacy (Eric), grandchildren Kenzie, Sidonia, Leo and Joey, and 9 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Antoinette Sequin, his sister Rita Poirier, brother Ron, niece Michelle, and nephew Murray.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Pine Falls hospital complex and Sunnywood Manor for the love and care shown to Bob and to us during this difficult time. There are angels here on earth. Special thanks to Bob’s dear friends Sharon and Ken Cyr.

The best husband, dad, grampa/papa, uncle, friend a family could be fortunate enough to have, his legacy is in our hearts. In a world that can be dark – be like Bob.

There will be a celebration of Bob’s life on January 18, 2025 at 1:30 p.m., in the Royal Canadian Legion, 7 Tamarak Street, Pine Falls, Manitoba.
