With family by his side, Roger Joseph Mroz peacefully departed this life in his 88th year. With broken and heavy hearts, we said our goodbyes to our husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa in the late afternoon of May 31, 2024.
Roger is lovingly remembered by wife Sylvia, who he would have been married to for 63 years this month. He will be dearly missed by his family, son Brad, grandchildren, Bobby, Gary, Mackenzie (Lindsay), son Darryl (Carla), grandchildren Matthew (Candyce, Charlee), Andrew (Kayla) and Aaron (Kristy), son Glenn, grandchildren, Tera, Russell (Desiree, Casey), son Dean (Terri-Lee), grandchildren Kyle, Mark and Eric and his sister, Phyllis Dreveski. Roger was predeceased by his parents (Joseph and Caroline), brother-in-law Edward Dreveski, and great-grandson Noah.
Dad and mom first met at Teddy’s Place in Tyndall. They married on June 17, 1961, in Ladywood and soon after, their family was complete with their four sons. Dad worked hard to purchase their first family home and then moved them into Beausejour in 1964.
In his early years, Dad drove the cream truck for Naaykens Transport and worked at the Garson Quarry. For many years during the 1960’s, Dad worked on the powerline as a linesman and foreman building the powerline from Winipeg to Grand Rapids. In 1964, Dad’s dream of working with his father to farm became a reality with his first purchase of land. Dad quickly transitioned his father from livestock and grain farming to solely farming grain as fast as he could. His legacy continued for many years as he farmed side-by-side with all four of his sons. Dad also belonged to the Canadian Agricultural Movement with his farm community. He valued his John Deere equipment, and Dad was “Chief” in the combine at fall harvest, and he truly enjoyed his meals on the field with his family. For 35 Christmas seasons, Dad also genuinely enjoyed hauling Christmas trees from Lowland and then selling the Christmas trees in Winnipeg in “his lot” where many memories were made.
Dad loved his dogs dearly (Sandy, Cocoa, Toby and Buster). For many years, he also treasured his morning coffee shop crew and the daily visits in town. Dad and mom were fortunate enough to travel to the Dominican Republic, Florida and Mexico, as well as take an Alaskan Cruise.
Roger was a devoted grandpa who loved his grandchildren dearly. He always attended his grandchildren’s school activities, sports and many events. Dad leaves a lasting impact of love and legacy and special memories with them all.
Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 11:00 am at the St Mary Roman Catholic Church in Beausejour. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that if you so desire, please donate to either the Eastgate Lodge Recreation program or the Beausejour Hospital Special Equipment fund as both healthcare facilities and staff were instrumental in Dad’s care.
