Ronald Theodore Radons

January 19, 1940 — October 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron “Chappy” Radons, beloved husband of Sherry, at the age of 84. On Monday, October 7th, 2024 at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank , he passed away with the love of his life by his side. To mourn his passing, he leaves his loving wife of 59 years, Sherry, his two daughters Tracy (Kelly) Weidman and Wendy (Lorne) Relf. He also leaves behind the greatest joy in his life, his grandchildren: Kyle (Hannah), Mathew, Richelle (Matthew), and Meagan (Blake). He also leaves his brother-in-law John Stephens, sister-in-law Blanche Radons, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dad was predeceased by his parents Reinhold and Anna, and his siblings Alvin, Richard, Rosalie, Ivy, Gertie, and Harvey. Dad is also predeceased by his furry little buddy Pudsy, who would wait at the door until he came home, every day.

At an early age, Dad lost his father. This tragic event separated the family. Dad went to live with his Mom and his sister Gertie. He went to school in Beausejour, later continuing his education at Red River Community College as a tinsmith. He was first employed at Beausejour Sheet Metal, followed by Acme Heating in Winnipeg. He later returned to Beausejour Sheet Metal, before starting and running his own business for ten years, Ron’s Heating. After closing the shop, Dad had moved on to AECL where he worked for the remainder of his career. After retirement, he enjoyed working part time at the Co-op Gas Bar, but being a babysitter/chauffeur to his grandchildren were some of the best times in his life.

At the age of 20, he met the love of his life, Sherry, and five years later they married and began their lifelong love story. They welcomed Tracy five years later. Three years after that came Wendy. Dad lived in Beausejour his entire life, until Mom and Dad moved to Dugald eight years ago - but he always considered Beausejour his home. We are grateful to have shared many fond memories, including travelling with family and friends on cruises and bus trips, countless family summer road trips, attending or watching sports games, get togethers, Friday night Rummoli, Dad’s incredible sweet tooth, and our family trip to Disney World with his grandchildren. Dad’s grandchildren were his brightest light. Each is lucky enough to have inherited his very best qualities – humour, compassion, conversation, a mischievous grin - and of course, a deep love of sports.

Dad loved sports - baseball, football, golf, curling - really, all sports - but his true love was hockey. Dad played hockey for as long as we can remember. He was always a goalie and a darn good one. Dad’s hockey career led him all over North America, including B.C. and California. The highlight of his career was playing with the Winnipeg Monarchs, the affiliate team of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Beausejour Beavers held a special place in his heart as well, where he played alongside many of his closest friends.

After Dad finished playing hockey, he carried his passion forward by coaching, then reffing hockey and ringette, and finally umping ball for many years. His passionate volunteer work was recognized with the Eastman Sports Development Award for his tireless efforts toward developing sports in the Eastman Region. Dad was a huge influence on the younger generations in the community through his love of sports, his valuable knowledge of the game, and his easy-going, fun-loving personality.

Although Dad’s health failed him in the last couple of years, Mom never left his side, providing constant loving care and comfort - and of course, the odd disagreement over sports teams. The sparkle in his eye never dimmed when he saw Mom enter the room.

Dad never failed to make people feel valued with his desire for conversation and warm humour. He was a man of few words, but his smile, presence, and personality were profound.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kin Place Personal Care Home for their outstanding care and compassion in the last year.

The family respectfully requests that if you so desire, please donate to The Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba.

A private service has been held with interment in Beausejour Town Cemetery.
