Rose Klann (Nee Patzer)

February 20, 1924 – February 10, 2017

Peacefully, after a brief illness, Rose passed away at the Beausejour Hospital on February 10,  just 10 days short of her 93rd birthday.

She is lovingly remembered and survived by her son Neville (Diane), son Percy (Janice), grandson Patrick (Julia) Klann and great-grandsons Andrew, Oliver and Noah, and granddaughter Stacey Burgess and great-grandsons Preston and Dawson.

Rose was born February 20, 1924 in Thalberg, Manitoba to Herman and Rosina Patzer. She was the youngest of 9 children. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond and by her parents as well as her brothers Gottlieb, William (Bill), Fred, Adolph, and Louis and her sisters Lydia Zirk and Martha Steffan. She is survived by her one remaining sister Natalie Fiebelkorn of Maple Ridge, B.C. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Harold (Edna) Klann of Transcona, MB. and her sister-in-law Doreen Shier of Kitchener, Ont. along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose was raised and educated in Thalberg and on September 28, 1947 she married Raymond Klann, who lived only a mile away. They lived in Thalberg with their 2 sons until 1957 when they moved to Beausejour, Manitoba. After a couple of years, once the boys were old enough, she decided to find employment to keep herself busy as Ray worked at West Hawk Lake, Ont. as a dragline operator and was only home on the weekends. She started working at the local MacLeods Store, first as a cashier and then as the dry goods manager. After a couple of years, she moved to the Beausejour Co-op Store where she worked as the dry goods manager for many years. In 1965 she and Ray, along with 2 other partners, went into business for themselves in Beausejour by incorporating Ray’s Fashions Ltd. – clothing for “Tots to Teens”. After a few years, she also took on and operated the local Eatons’ Catalogue Sales office from the clothing store location until Eatons’ went out of business in 1975. A few years later she also retired and began enjoying a well earned early retirement from what had turned into a full and hectic business career.

After retiring she busied herself with yard work and gardening. She loved her flowers and every Spring the basement was full of seedlings and every Spring there were trips to the greenhouses for plants. In Summer the yard was a show place full of flowers, the lawns were always immaculately cut and the shrubs were perfectly trimmed.  In fact, one year they won the Town award for Best Yard. Living on a busy street people would often stop by to visit and admire the flowers and their compliments were always a source of pride. In addition to gardening she and Ray were now free to travel to Kitchener, Ont., usually in the fall, to visit their son Percy and his family. They always returned happy and with a vehicle loaded with delicious Cortland apples – which they picked themselves!- and great tasting Bosc pears. These trips continued for 21 years until Ray passed away in 1993. In subsequent years, after much coaxing, she would fly out to Kitchener for a couple of weeks to spend Christmas and New Years week with son Percy and his family and their friends. These annual visits continued for 10 years until she no longer felt comfortable travelling. Good times were had by all! In the fall of 2009 she moved from her beloved home at 508 James Avenue to Apartment 202 at Stony Plains at 606 James Avenue. Same town – same street – only 1 short block away. Once she settled into her new apartment she soon made many new friends with her care givers and fellow tenants and they soon became an important and valued part of her “new family”. She especially enjoyed weekly Bingo and Pokeno games downstairs with her new friends and watching curling on TV and “doing her book” in her apartment upstairs. She spent countless happy hours immersed in her ever-present Word Search books. She was very happy and content in her new home and resided there until her passing.

The family would especially like to thank the wonderful and patient care-givers at Stony Plains who took such good care of her and provided her with much appreciated conversation and companionship during her stay. Also, thank you to Dr. Schmidt and the staff at the Beausejour Hospital for their care during her brief illness and stay.

Viewing will be held on Friday, February 17, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., at Sobering Funeral Chapel., Beausejour, MB.  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with a luncheon to follow after the service at the Beausejour Room at the Brokenhead River Community Hall.
