It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roxana "Roxy" Olga Wazny on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Pinawa Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Walter “Smiley”, her daughter Jacqueline, her parents Annie and Dmytro, her parents-in-law Anna and Francizk, and her siblings Michael, Walter (Tina), Nellie (Mike), Orest (Francis), and Russell.
Roxy leaves behind her daughter Kathy (Brad), son Danny (Michelle), grandson Chris, grandchildren Melissa (Brad), Allison (Jonathan), Brent (Jordyn), Danielle (Jameson), Alex (Jack), as well as her cherished great-grandchildren Khloe, Kingstyn, Aria, and Riggs. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Roxy was born on October 14, 1936, and grew up in Pine River. She met Walter in 1955 while teaching at a school in Overwater. Their connection was immediate, and they became engaged in 1956, marrying on August 8, 1958. In 1959, they settled on their homestead in Lac du Bonnet, where Walter farmed and they raised their family.
A dedicated educator, Roxy taught in various northern communities and later worked as a substitute teacher in local schools. She was also a passionate advocate for justice, volunteering with the Lac du Bonnet Justice Committee, where she contributed to causes close to her heart.
Known for her warm hospitality, Roxy welcomed everyone with open arms, ensuring no one left her home hungry or without a drink in hand. Her legendary cabbage rolls and perogies were staples of family gatherings and will be dearly missed. She loved being surrounded by family, staying connected to local happenings, and sharing in the joys of life with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Clovechok and the wonderful nurses and support staff at the Pinawa Hospital. Their compassionate care brought great comfort to Roxy and eased our hearts during this difficult time.
A celebration of Roxy’s life will be held at the Notre Dame du Lac Catholic Church, 63 McArthur Avenue, Lac du Bonnet, on December 19, 2024, at 1.00 p.m., with viewing taking place at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Lac du Bonnet cemetery. The family would like to thank the Sobering Funeral Chapel for the kind and compassionate care.
Roxy’s kindness, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
