Roy Barnsdale

May 23, 1953 — July 25, 2024

We are saddened to share that, after a brief illness, Roy Charles Barnsdale Jr passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024 with his family at his side at the age of 71.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Louise, daughter Elizabeth (Betty), parents Roy Sr and Betty, brothers Eddie, Glen and Danny. He is survived by his daughters Terinia (Ken), Paula (Denis), Samantha (Duward), siblings Tom, Mike, Paul, Walter, Peter, Maureen, Mark, their respective partners and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dad was born in West York, Ontario on May 23, 1953; 2nd of 11 children born to Roy Sr and Betty Barnsdale. The family moved to Pinawa, Manitoba in August 1962 where Dad and his older brothers spent a great deal of time fishing, hunting and camping. They built a cabin down the Pinawa Channel and spent most of their weekends there.

Dad enlisted in the Navy in 1972, stationed in Vancouver - where he obtained his Instrument Electrical Technician and met his wife Brenda. They moved to Swan Hills, AB to raise their 3 girls - Paula, Samantha and Betty. Many memories were made of fishing, camping and BBQs at the gun range where Dad competed in Skeet shooting. He was a firearms enthusiast who made his own ammunition and instructed Firearm and Hunter Safety courses. Dad spent many years employed in the Oil & Gas industry as a 4th Class Power Engineer and Gas Plant Operator.

In the late 80's, Dad moved back to Manitoba where he met and married Louise (Terinia) with whom he eventually settled in Garson, MB. Dad continued his love of hunting and fishing and hanging out with friends and family. He was easy going, had a great sense of humour, was the life of the party and was quick to make friends. There are many fond memories of floats down the Pinawa channel, raft derby's along the Whitemouth River and birthday hijinks and pranks!

He was a perfectionist and highly organized! If you were looking for any tool, nail or screw to get a job done - you just had to go to one of his sheds. Everything was sorted in separate labelled containers by length of screw or nail, electrical cord/gauge, sandpaper, etc. And you can bet he made sure you put things back in their proper spot!

Upon the passing of his wife Louise, Dad moved to Lac du Bonnet to be closer to his family. He resided there until his passing.

Dad is now with his much missed wife Louise and daughter Betty. We're sure they're giving him an earful or rolling their eyes at some completely inappropriate joke or comment he made!

Cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or charity of your choice. We would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.
