Rudolph Ernest Ferchoff

March 28, 1926 — March 28, 2012

1926 ~ 2012

Peacefully after a brief illness our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away with his family at his side on Aug 6, 2012 at the age of 86 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret, and their children Lawrence (Pat), Dennis (Cathy), Ernie (Sandy), Kristel (Chuck) Fletcher; grandchildren Joel, Jay, Jeffery, Matthew, Lee, Jenna, Taylor and Hunter. He is also survived by daughter-in-law Karen (Collins), brothers Henry (Vi) and Len (Jeanette), sisters Marie Lyons, Gertrude Kreis and Reta Johnson, brothers-in-law Albert (Dorothy), Len and Ed (Melita) Langner and sisters-in-law Freda and Alma; and will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Gordon and grandson Scott.

Rudy was born near Lampman, SK and grew up in Dencross, MB. His working life  began in farming and logging but more than 30 years of his career was in construction as a gifted self-taught carpenter. Rudy was very dedicated and hard-working in providing for his family and in helping friends, neighbours and others.  The centre of Rudy’s life was his family and his faith. As a member of the Lutheran church all his life, he served on the church council, taught Sunday school and choir and band. After retiring, Rudy displayed his gift for true craftsmanship building many fine woodworking treasures for family, friends and neighbours.

A very special and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Fred Olynyk for his excellent and dedicated care. The family would also like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital for the comfort and support provided to Dad and his family.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Rudy’s life was held on Friday, August 10 at 1:00 pm. at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave., Winnipeg with interment in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Beausejour, MB.

If friends wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad’s memory to Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2K 0X3 or to the charity of one’s choice.
