1938 ~ 2018
With great sorrow, I announce the passing of Sonja on February 11, 2018.
She was a strong individual, slightly stubborn, beating a bout of cancer in 2000-2005. Recently, dementia took hold, and this was a battle she became too frail to fight.
Sonja was predeceased by her mother Edith (nee Gillie), father William (Bill) Smith, and sister Betty Levien.
Sonja is survived by her daughter Barb (Tim Weakley), three grandchildren Will, Erin and Zach, along with 7 great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn two nieces Connie and Brenda, and sister Barb, as well as many special friends, Delores (Johnson), Cora (Nacu), Ruth and Ed (Owsiak), Marg and Dave (Carey), Bill (Lougheed), who checked on her regularly, thank you. Sonja was employed in retail all her life, working for Woolco and then Walmart. She made many friends there also, too many to mention.
Hospitalized since October, many thanks to Dr. Williams and all the staff at Pinawa Hospital.
As we speak Sonja is getting fitted for her wings. I told her I need her on my shoulder to keep me in line. She thought she worked hard before.
As per Sonja’s wishes, cremation has taken place with private interment at a later date.
Donations, if desired, may be made to CancerCare of Dementia Research.
Au Revoir till we meet again,
loving and miss you. Barb
