Theresa Mae Mckenzie

May 12, 1947 — March 26, 2017

May 12, 1947 – March 26, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa McKenzie on March 26, 2017 at the age of 69.

Theresa was predeceased by her loving parents Gordon McKenzie and Beatrice Davis, and her lifelong partner George Choquette.

Theresa is survived by her cousin Susan Docker, many other relatives, her roommates Donald, Hannah and Matthew, and large extended family with Association for Community Living-Beausejour Branch (ACL-BB).

Theresa was a woman who was strong, independent, vibrant, caring, and motherly.  She had a smile that was contagious and could light up any room, and a laugh that was mischievous and playful.  Theresa cared deeply for her friends and roommates, and took on the mothering role whenever needed, whether it was to give a gentle scolding, or to say “Good Morning, how are you?”, to give the tender touch and kisses that only a mother can share that somehow wipes away all the worries of the world.  She loved to take care of herself, having her nails painted and never wanting them trimmed too short, coloring her hair the most wonderful colors, bright purples and pinks, wearing her beautiful jewelry and hair accessories, she loved to dress and look her best every day, happily soaking in the compliments awaiting her as she rounded every corner at work each day.  Theresa had a strong faith in God, and enjoyed attending church, and singing hymns that she knew every word to, never once needing to look at a page.  She was called to be in her heavenly home, where she has joined George, who she has missed greatly, they will dance, and laugh and stay together hand in hand forever.

Theresa has been a cornerstone in the ACL family for 30 years, and will be missed dearly.  Every time a grey sky turns to blue, we will know that it is you, our ray of sunshine, peeking through to brighten up our day.

Thank you to all ACL staff, both past and present, who have supported Theresa throughout her life, both in her home and at her day program.  It is only with your support that Theresa was able to have a home, not just a house, and family, not only peers and staff.  Also, a thank you to the EMS staff who attended to Theresa, giving her dignity in her final moments.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Association for Community Living – Beausejour Branch.

A Celebration of Theresa’s Life will be held on Tuesday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour.
