Peacefully, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the age of 85 years, Walter passed away at East Gate Lodge.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife Elisabeth, of almost 60 years, his children Kurt (Judith), Diana, Richard (Lorraine), Ernest (Sara), Charles (Janet) and Maureen (David) and his 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Edgar and Otto (Lorraine) and sister Edna Berdine. He was predeceased by his parents August and Emily, brother Arthur and sisters Alicia Best and Elsie Hogan.
Walter was born on June 12, 1926 in Beausejour. As a young man, he helped his father run the family dairy business in Beausejour. Soon after, he attained his certification as an automotive mechanic. He was also a part-time grain farmer and provided 33 years of dedicated service to the Beausejour-Brokenhead Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a Founding Father of the Grace Lutheran Church.
Walter enjoyed the company of family and friends and looked forward to the holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. He enjoyed travelling with Elisabeth. When he found extra time in the summer months, he was off fishing, which was a passion of his.
Funeral Services was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4 at Grace Lutheran Church, 310 Gertrude Avenue, Beausejour with viewing one hour prior to the service.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the staff of East Gate Lodge and the Beausejour Hospital.
