Walter William Hickson

April 10, 1942 to March 19, 2017

Walter William Hickson passed away at Whitemouth Personal Care Home, Whitemouth, MB at the age of 74.

Walter was born in Saltcoats, SK to Hedley and Ruth Hickson on April 10, 1942.  He was raised on the family farm in the Grahame District and attended Grahame School.  His little sister Edith arrived on March 21, 1946 and became his shadow.

He later moved to Rennie, MB with his brother in-law Chuck McEwan to work in the logging industry and for CPR Railroad.  It was here he met Marlene French and whom he married on October 6, 1973.  They lived in Winnipeg where their only child Dennis was born on May 30, 1976.

Walter worked at Peak-of-the-Market until he retired in 2003.  Walter and Marlene moved back to Rennie to enjoy his retirement and a quiet life puttering on small engines while enjoying his rescue dogs.

After losing Marlene in 2007, he continued to live in Rennie and visit his son in Winnipeg.  He felt so blessed when his grandson Aiden was born in 2010.  His health became worse and he was admitted to the Whitemouth Personal Care Home where he resided until his death.

Walter will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his son Dennis (Brigette), grandson Aiden, sister Edith McEwan, nephews Kip and Jay McEwan and families and many more family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Marlene in 2007, his parents Hedley and Ruth Hickson, in-laws Bernard and Ena French, and brother in-law Chuck McEwan.

The family wishes to give their most heartfelt gratitude to all at Whitemouth Personal Care Home for their care and compassion for Walter and ourselves.

As per Walter’s request, there will be no funeral.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Whitemouth Personal Care Home or charity of your choice.
