BILL KOWALCHUK
July 18, 1944 – August 31, 2011
Bill passed away peacefully at the age of 67. He is survived by his loving wife Judi, son Todd, step-daughter Renee (Tony), granddaughter Teagan, brother George (Joan), numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Dave and Violet (Shymko) Kowalchuk.
Bill attended Brokenhead School and apprenticed as an auto mechanic at Gretsinger Garage in Beausejour. He became a heavy equipment operator at the Greater Winnipeg Floodway project and then on the DEW Line in the North. In 1967, he started at AECL in Pinawa working as a Radiation Industrial Surveyor Supervisor until he retired in 1998. After which he started his own yard maintenance and small home repair business, BWK Ventures, where he mainly did maintenance for Manitoba Housing in Beausejour, working with his brother George.
Bill enjoyed slow-pitch baseball, snowmobiling, his automobiles and piloting planes but his favourite was working around his yard.
Bill had a kind heart, good sense of humour and always had time for his family and friends. He was meticulous with everything he did, from his first job to his always perfect yard.
A funeral service celebrating Bill’s life was held on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 11:00 am at Sobering Funeral Chapel , Beausejour. Interment to follow at the Beausejour Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
